Job Summary

Responsible for technical direction, leading to the development and maintenance of Business Intelligence reporting and Data Science. Through close interaction with the Director of Business Intelligence & Data Science, this individual defines the enterprise strategy around data and business intelligence to ensure needs are met. This individual will be involved with strategic planning to maintain existing reporting needs as well as building for future company growth. The Vice President of Business Intelligence & Data Science plays a key leadership role in meeting with existing and future clients’ Executives to discuss SelectQuote’s data management approach.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides strategic direction for the Director and subordinate teams to:
    • Deliver clear, reliable performance metrics to internal customers
    • Leverage data to help improve business processes
    • Analyze data, create appropriate output, and present succinct findings to management
    • Seek out data from multiple sources to create comprehensive views that can be used to drive decision making
    • Work with several large and complex databases
    • Create queries to extract appropriate data
  • Determine the most effective resource allocation for team
  • Determine the analytical needs of stakeholders
  • Develop, communicate, and execute a vision for meeting stakeholder’s needs
  • Lead efficient, accurate, and timely data analysis efforts
  • Work with the Director of BI & Data Science to:
    • Manage inbound requests and turn them into clearly defined projects for the team, with well-defined parameters and deliverables
    • Prioritize inbound requests to ensure the team’s efforts are spent in the most value-added areas
    • Develop relationships with various internal customers and remain current with the direction of the overall business plans
    • Collaborate with internal customers to develop analyses that lead to actionable insights
    • Will provide strategic planning in conjunction with the BI/DS teams
    • Lead creativity and experiments in finding data that is not always easily accessible
  • Meet with new clients to showcase SelectQuote’s data offerings (this should be approximately 75% of your efforts)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong familiarity with data warehousing, report building, and ETL processes
  • Advanced experience writing SQL queries
  • Advanced experience using OLAP tools highly desirable
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Objectivity and openness to others views, providing solutions and creative input

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Extensive experience in data modeling, data mining, and data cleansing
  • Advanced working knowledge of and prior experience with data warehouse environments
  • Advanced working knowledge of reporting tools and querying applications
  • Ability to convert and present analyzed data into useful information
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and data models
  • Superior communication (oral and written), organization, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Strong negotiating and consensus-building skills
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, Hyperion experience
  • Good organizational, time management, and listening skills

Training and Experiences

  • At a minimum, eight to ten years of experience using presentation layer tools (BI tools) such as: SSRS, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, to query data. Strong SQL and NoSQL databases (structured and non-structured)
  • At a minimum, eight to ten years of experience using Microsoft SQL Server 2008r2 or later; or any other like RDBMS
  • Advanced understanding of R, Python
  • At least ten years of experience doing data warehousing with Microsoft SQL Server 2008r2 or later; or any other like RDBMS
  • Advanced experience with OLAP tools and concepts
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Finance, Statistics or related field desired
  • 10+ years of data analysis experience required
  • 8+ years of management experience required
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
